Oklahoma-born John Hinckley was obsessed with the actress Jodie Foster, and equally fascinated with assasination. He was fined for possession of handguns whilst stalking President Carter in 1980, then determined to shoot the new president, Ronald Reagan, detailing the ‘historic deed’ in a letter to Foster. Outside Washington’s Hilton, Hinckley fired six shots; one hit Reagan in the chest and three other people were wounded. Hinckley, not guilty due to insanity, was sent to St Elizabeth’s Institution in Washington.

HOW DOES SOMEONE LIKE THIS NOT GET FOUND GUILTY???
